Woodland Trust links

Free trees for schools
School grounds in need of TLC can benefit from a free pack of 30 native trees (enough for a small grove or short length of hedge) which come with guidance on planting and maintenance plus curriculum-linked activities.

Tree for All
Our new five year campaign with an ambitious target to get one million children helping to plant 12 million trees. Pupils can start by planting an etree online.

Environmental issues
The Woodland Trust produces a number of policy documents giving background information to, and explaining our views about, topical environmental issues including climate change, genetically modified organisms and renewable energy. These materials would be useful for GCSE/A level study.

ePolitix
The Woodland Trust maintains a presence on the ePolitix micro site, where its views on environmental issues can be compared with other organisations.

British Trees
A useful site for all your tree-related questions.

Environment Agency
A very good site with animated movies and games about a wide range of environmental topics including threatened wildlife, waste, recycling and flooding.

Whose land is it anyway? (The National Trust)
Pupils find out some of the real issues about land use in Britain today through this interactive activity which discusses the arguments for and against a local farmer selling his land to a property developer.

Forestry Commission
This site has good ideas for linking activity in and around woodland into the curriculum. Some resources are already available with more promised soon.

Learning about Forests
This site is hosted by an international schools and forests programme and includes contributions from many countries.

WWF learning
This WWF site for teachers includes lots of ideas for classroom-based activities for both primary and secondary children as well as briefings on hot environmental topics.

Scottish Natural Heritage
This site has a good set of factsheets on threatened species eg red squirrel, habitats, eg peat bogs and environmental issues such as sustainability and biodiversity.

Young People’s Trust for the Environment
This organisation is a charity that aims to encourage young people's understanding of the environment and the need for sustainability.
